Honeywell predicts turbocharger usher in boom

On August 1, 2011, Steve McKinley , senior manager of Honeywell Turbo Technology Co., Ltd., estimated that the turbocharger assembled on U.S. light vehicles will usher in its use boom in 2020, and its assembly rate will be From 5% in 2009, it climbed sharply to 82% in 2020.

McKinley, vice president of engineering for Americas, pointed out that three factors have contributed to the advent of turbocharger use - the government has introduced more stringent fuel economy regulations, higher fuel prices and consumer preferences. About 50 million vehicles worldwide are equipped with turbochargers. Turbochargers help improve the performance of the engine and make it possible for car manufacturers to develop more powerful, more torque and smaller engines.

Automakers believe that the company's core competitiveness lies in the engine. However, McKinley hopes to keep the turbocharger at the supplier because the current reliability of the turbocharger is not very good, and there are still some technical barriers to be overcome. Suppliers such as Honeywell are currently working more closely with automakers with the goal of applying turbochargers to gasoline and diesel engines that automakers are developing.

McKinley declined to disclose Honeywell’s market share, but he stated that the company’s goal is to obtain 50% of all new businesses.
